Sharon – Piano teacher

Sharon has a degree in music from Canterbury University and grade 8 in piano, flute and theory.  She started teaching piano at the age of 15, as her piano teacher would not take beginners.

‘I find it really enjoyable teaching music to beginners as you can see a pupil grow from never having played an instrument before to blossoming into an accomplished player.

I believe that you should motivate through encouragement and nurture a pupil by making playing fun, not only does this inspire them to branch out and learn for themselves, but gives them the opportunity to gain confidence and expand their knowledge of music.

Teaching I believe should always be fun, not a chore or some might say extra homework. Its just learning a new skill that you can take with you through out your life.

My main career has been in the television industry, which with my music background has held me in good stead. From editing music videos to pacing a sensitive interview for news, music is all around us.

Having the patience to teach music is a skill, and passing on that skill is, and should always be an enjoying pleasure.’
