Hannah – piano, voice and guitar teacher
Currently in her second year at the University of Oxford, studying for a BA in Music, Hannah is a creative and enthusiastic teacher with a degree specialism in Performance, Music Academia, and Music Teaching Practice and Pedagogy. With both a classical and contemporary background in music training, Hannah has gained experience in piano, voice and guitar, as well as violin, saxophone, bass, and orchestral tuned percussion. As well as being a Soprano Choral Scholar at Lady Margaret Hall college, Hannah regularly performs at events and recitals, most recently as part of a lunchtime recital series with Magdalen College on classical piano. She also has extensive pit playing and performance experience on guitar, having just played electric and acoustic guitar for ‘Persephone’ the musical at the Oxford Playhouse, and is also the lead guitarist for a Fleetwood Mac cover band. Alongside her enthusiasm for her degree and performance opportunities, Hannah has a music YouTube channel (Hannah Kieve) and is currently in the process of recording her own album of original music.
Having learnt piano since the age of 4, Hannah’s main goal is to spark enjoyment for music, combined with the philosophy that anyone at any age can learn. She believes that teaching is a communicative process where the aspirations and endeavours of the student are central. With practice, patience and appropriate technical assistance they should feel as though they are able to achieve anything they want to, the sky is the limit!

She has furthered developed her musical skills by attending Austrian Master Classes twice, a week-long summer masterclass course in Austria studying solo violin performance, stage training as well as string quartet performing with accomplished string professors such as Sabine Nova, David Frühwirth, Andreas Pözlberger and Peter Langgartner.
In addition, Katherine enjoys playing the drums, guitar and piano, and is also currently the keyboardist for Oxford-based funk/pop cover band Moonlight !n Blue.

“I have been so fortunate to have had incredible music teachers and mentors throughout my musical career who have developed my skills and shaped my worldview, with and without music. Without them I would not have the confidence to pursue music and I hope that through teaching I can pass on what my experiences have taught me and instill that same confidence and enthusiasm in aspiring musicians.”
Katherine is fluent in English as well as Chinese and Cantonese.

Hi! My name is Riley and I’ve been playing the drums ever since I can remember. I’ve slowly turned hitting pots and pans into hitting drums which is now what I do for a living – it still seems surreal! Ever since I started playing I’ve tried to show everyone everything that I’ve learned… and this is where my passion for teaching came from. I believe that every student learns in a different way, which is why I try and teach that way. If you are a visual, auditory, reading learner I will do my best to give you that learning experience too! Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you soon…’ More info to follow…

“To learn to play an instrument well is of great and subtle benefit, firstly to the player, and the for others. Teaching violin allows me to pass on the necessary skills so that pupils can discover for themselves its many possibilities as their instrument. My expectation and experience is that wonderful sounds can be found and enjoyed from the very first lesson. This approach forms a satisfying foundation whatever kind of violin playing the person comes to choose.
I love making music, whether it is as a violinist playing with others or by directing an orchestra. I am happy to offer individual lessons as well as small ensemble sessions, for both children and adults at all levels.
Music matters, as valued nourishment for the soul.”

Alice – piano teacher
Alice is a piano and keyboard teacher with a BA Hons in Music from the University of Chichester (2011) and over 15 years of playing experience, achieving distinctions in all ABRSM Jazz grades. She teaches a wide range of styles from Jazz and Blues to Rock, Pop, Funk, film scores and Classical music. She has been a member of numerous Rock and Jazz bands performing in gigs and weddings around the UK.She believes that it is important to stay motivated with genres and pieces students enjoy.
In a first lesson she asks if there are any songs her student has always wanted to play, giving them something to work towards. Being able to play a piece you love is the most rewarding part of learning an instrument.
Alice’s most common feedback is that she is very good at putting students at ease, making sure to have fun and use positive reinforcement so as to keep up morale and motivation. People learn in different ways and it is important to bear this in mind.
Alice began her teaching career in Surrey and has moved to the vibrant city of Brighton to immerse herself in the creative culture.

Peter – piano teacher
‘I passed my Grade 8 piano exam in school and continued to study piano performance alongside composition at the University of Surrey. I have been teaching full time in schools for the last two years so I have considerable experience teaching students ranging from absolute beginners up to Grade 8 level and have coached many students through grade exams. I also enjoy teaching pop music and am a singer and guitarist myself so am always keen to jam along with my students.
I believe it is very important to learn music you want to learn so I base my lessons around each individual student’s preferences while taking into account their strengths and weaknesses and what specific aspects of their playing will benefit most from special attention. Grades can be a great way to inspire and challenge students but I don’t consider them essential – as long as a student is inspired to practice at home every week then swift progress will surely follow!’

She’s played in different kinds of musical groups, including for choir, and has prepared instrumental groups for presentations and composed scores for theatre. She graduated in music (piano) from UNESP (Paulista State University) – one of the main universities of São Paulo – and she had her BA thesis on Music and Cinema published by the university. Nathalia believes a student’s interest in their instrumental journey can be greatly enhanced if other interests, passions and everyday life are intertwined with their music.

Louis – guitar teacher
Louis first started playing the guitar when he was eight years old, and hasn’t put one down since. During this time he has studied composition, performance, improvisation, production and songwriting.
Louis is an experienced electric, acoustic and bass guitar teacher who prides himself in making his lessons fun and interactive for his students, as he believes people learn more easily and with a greater permanence when they are engaged. He has taught pupils of all ages and abilities and will tailor each lesson to the student’s prior experience and future goals.
Louis strives to make each set of lessons as well rounded as possible, with a focus on aural perception, exercises to improve technique, and theory. Learning and dissecting music both theoretically and practically is also a major part of his tutelage, as this enables us to see why a piece of music makes us feel a certain way and how we can replicate this feeling in our playing and writing. If desired, lessons can also include training in songwriting, theory, improvisation and performance.
In 2019 Louis graduated from Goldsmiths University with a degree (hons) in music, specialising in Jazz guitar. He has however extensively studied Latin, Blues, Funk, Pop, and Rock and is equally equipped to teach any of these.
Above all, Louis takes the students goals into account and helps to create a clear cut path to achieving them. Extra work is often set for completion outside of lesson times, as frequent practise is key. If desired, lessons can also include help for students practising for recitals, revising for grades and/or rehearsing for auditions.

As a performer, Julia has enjoyed the opportunity to play in orchestras all over the United States, including the National Repertory Orchestra (Colorado), the Round Top Festival Orchestra (Texas), the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra (Wyoming), the Fort Collins Symphony (Colorado), the Hudson Valley Philharmonic (New York) and many others in and around New York City, including a performance at the UN General Assembly with the Refugee Orchestra Project of New York. Massimo – piano teacher
Music has been a constant source of joy and fulfilment throughout Massimo’s life. He has played the piano from an early age and completed his studies in Italy. In England, he has focused on the study of historical keyboard instruments (harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano) as well as on matters of performance practice at postgraduate level.
Massimo regards music as one of the highest expressions of humanity for its ability to delight, nourish and move both the performer and the listener.
‘I love making music, whether as a soloist, as an accompanist, in a chamber music setting or as an orchestral player, but I also cherish the challenge to transmit my passion for it to students of all abilities and to aid them to discover the great wealth of repertoire that the piano has to offer. It always strikes me how musicians have a profound understanding of their own and others’ human nature, which is refined through practice, understanding and shared playing experience. I simply could not imagine living in a world without music.’

David – piano, sax and flute teacher
From David… “I graduated from the University of Oxford with a first-class degree in music. My speciality is classical composition, songwriting and music academia, and I have established myself as a piano teacher, while also offering lessons on flute and saxophone. My music has been performed by the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and other renowned classical musicians. I also have experience playing in big bands throughout secondary school and university, as well as my college orchestra. I have three central principles in my teaching. Firstly, I want to spark a love for music and learning – facilitating those ‘wow’ moments that begin a true passion – resulting in the learning and development driving itself. Secondly, I have an individualised approach that revolves around the learning endeavours and interests of the student, as I believe everyone learns at their best when they are self-driven and genuinely engaged. Thirdly, I balance careful planning with spontaneity, making holistic lesson plans to ensure the student’s learning is structured and purposeful. However, I always leave room for spontaneous creativity and following their own in-the-moment learning endeavours and curiosities. Currently I am learning to be a producer and touring with the rock band ‘Mandrake Handshake’, while working as a TA in a primary school and now a secondary school. I am also a solo artist under the name ‘Silver Sakura’ where I am experimenting with combining Classical and Jazz with Popular music. My life revolves around constant growth, development and reflection on both my musicianship and my teaching practice.”

Rosnan – piano teacher
Rosnan is a BA Hons music student at Oxford Brookes University. He is classically trained, completing ABRSM Grades 1-8 Piano at a very young age. Rosnan also made a decision early on to explore his own specific interests in anime music. ‘As a growing pianist and teacher, I want to teach students that there are different approaches in learning piano, whether it is learning or performing as a pianist. Regardless of any expectations given or how fast one may learn music, I believe that anyone can perform and grow their potential as a musician with time and effort, given the support to do so. ”Do not let the music you play define who you are, but rather, define yourself through how you define the music with your playing”.‘ Rosnan says, regarding amine… ‘I have always felt limited to what I could play on the piano. All the music I could play on the piano were all pieces from piano sheets and grade pieces. I wanted to change this at the age of 16, where I had explored what anime music is, beginning to play and learn anime music on the piano. 4 years later, I am now able to improvise on the piano, arrange music in the same style of anime, establish my own style in piano compositions and perform anime music as a new genre of music to others. As a musician, there is one thought towards music that I keep in mind, helping me grow and stay motivated:

Della – singing teacher
Della has had a passion for music for as long as she can remember. After first learning how to play the acoustic guitar as a child, she went on to learn piano, percussion, and bass guitar. She has also had singing lessons from an early age, learning techniques from genres ranging from classical to musical theatre. During her school years, she put her multi-instrumentalism into practise by performing in vocal, jazz and wind ensembles, and several student led bands.
She is currently a music finalist at the University of Oxford and has continued to pursue her love of singing, achieving a Choral Exhibition for the Oriel College Chapel Choir, and recently joining one of Oxford’s leading a cappella groups, the Alternotives. Some of her favourite modules at university include composition, 1970s prog rock and music education; a practical course that focusses on studying different methods of music teaching. As part of the module, Della has been co-teaching a class of year 5s and 6s in St Frideswide Primary School. Watching the students grasp musical concepts and seeing their excitement grow has all but convinced her that her heart lies in teaching, a passion she is excited to bring to SCMT.
