Kathy is an experienced teacher working in Guildford. She has been working with students of all ages and abilities for several years and knows how to make lessons engaging and interesting.
Tailoring each lesson to fit the student, Kathy uses pieces, technical exercises, and improvisation to suit taste and ability. New music and styles are also regularly introduced to give the student a wide knowledge of music. From beginner to more complex pieces, Kathy knows and selects music that will appeal to students, bring out their capabilities, whilst challenging them at the same time.
Alongside this, Kathy has entered students for ABRSM exams. Repertoire is, again, chosen with the student. For her, it is important that students engage in music and what it means to them. However, the technical aspects of the exam are never forgotten, as Kathy teaches these aspects in easy to understand and engaging ways.
Kathy understands the importance of a good teacher, and the impact it can have on a student’s engagement with music and life outside of school. Students feel comfortable and confident in her lessons as she creates a space where students of all ages and abilities can thrive.
Kathy achieved a distinction in her Grade 8 Piano exam and is continuing to achieve high marks in her performances as she studies her final year of music at the University of Surrey. She is an experienced accompanist and soloist with a genuine passion for teaching. Regardless of current level, Kathy can help students make and achieve goals, and most importantly, enjoy playing the piano.
