Originally from the United States, Julia Castellanos is an active freelance violinist and teacher based in Oxford. As a teacher, she believes that studying an instrument should be both fun and challenging, while catering to the independent learning needs of each student. She is committed to cultivating a deep love of music in her students, as well as building a strong technical foundation and understanding of the violin. As a performer, Julia has enjoyed the opportunity to play in orchestras all over the United States, including the National Repertory Orchestra (Colorado), the Round Top Festival Orchestra (Texas), the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra (Wyoming), the Fort Collins Symphony (Colorado), the Hudson Valley Philharmonic (New York) and many others in and around New York City, including a performance at the UN General Assembly with the Refugee Orchestra Project of New York. Most recently, she was accepted into the Britten Pears Young Artists Programme Orchestra at Snape Maltings in Suffolk.
When she’s not teaching or performing, Julia enjoys practicing and taking lessons of her own, as well as studying Spanish, baking bread, and exploring Oxford.
